Abstract
The control of hot metal microstructures and the optimization of casti ng conditions require the development of appropriate physical models. In this work, we are presenting all the main steps in the formation of the microstructure of ferrito-perlitic hot metals with spheroidal gra phite, In particular, we have tried to correlate the knowledge deduced from cast products and the results of laboratory studies. The accent has been put on the nucleation or graphite nodules, the characterizati ons of the eutectic reaction, the development of microsegregations and the decomposition of the austenite into ferrite and graphite or into perlite.
