Abstract
2,5-Disubstituted furans were oxidatively cleaved to 2-butene-1,4-dion es with DDQ in CH2Cl2-DMSO. In particular, 3-alkoxy-2,5-diphenylfurans were selectively converted into cis-2-alkoxy-1,4-diphenyl-2-butene-1, 4-diones with DDQ in CH2Cl2.
