S. Calmant et N. Baudry, MODELING BATHYMETRY BY INVERTING SATELLITE ALTIMETRY DATA - A REVIEW, Marine geophysical researches, 18(2-4), 1996, pp. 123-134
With the advent of satellite altimetry it has become possible to deter
mine the gravity field of the oceans on a global scale. This set of da
ta can be used to predict the bathymetry of deep-seafloor features suc
h as seamounts and ridges. During the last two decades, several algori
thms which can be used to develop bathymetric predictions from satelli
te altimeter data have been published. The characteristics and quality
of these algorithms are reviewed in this study. Based on this analysi
s, we suggest some guidelines for processing data towards the producti
on of maps showing predicted bathymetry for economical purposes.
