The establishment of Wildlife Preservation Trust Canada (WPTC) and the
development of a programme unique to the 'Trusts' programmes, Canada'
s New Noahs (CNN) programme, are described, The programme was designed
to address a gap in conservation education and training of Canadian s
cientists and to provide resources and field assistance to the Trusts'
conservation activities in Mauritius. The programme is divided into t
wo phases: for the first three month phase, the trainee attends the Tr
usts' International Training Programme at JWPT; for the second phase o
n Mauritius, the trainee gains six to seven months of practical in-sit
u experience of the Trusts' conservation activities in that country, T
he programme has been successful in attracting good applicants, contri
buting to the scientific knowledge base, providing assistance to the M
auritius projects as well as attracting funding and publicity in Canad
a for WPTC.
