The title complexes, M (2-SC5H3NH-3-SiMe(3))(2)Cl-2 (M = Cd(1), Zn(2))
, were synthesized through the reaction of CdCl2 . 2.5H(2)O (or ZnCl2)
with 3-(trimethylsilyl)-pyridine-2-thiol (TSPT) in methanol. They wer
e characterized by X-ray diffraction analysis. The crystal of compound
1 belongs to the orthorhombic system, with space group Pna2(1), a = 2
.147 2(4) nm, b = 1.445 3(3) nm, c = 0.804 9(2) nm, V = 2.498 0(9) nm(
3), D-c = 1.462 g/cm(3), Z = 4. The final R is 0.035 4 for 1 602 refle
ctions [F>4.0 sigma(F)]. The crystal of complex 2 belongs to the ortho
rhombic system, with space group Fdd2, a = 1.756 3(4) nm, b = 2.945 4(
6) nm, c = 0.922 4(2) nm, V = 4.772(2) nm(3), D-c = 1.400 g/cm(3), Z =
8. The final R is 0.023 7 for 1 669 reflections [F>4.0 sigma(F)]. In
the two mononuclear complexes, the metal atom is coordinated with two
CI atoms and two S atoms from the sterically hindered thiolate ligands
.
