Phosphotriesterase (PTE) from a bacterium, Flavobacterium sp. was appl
ied for a novel biochemical determination of organophosphorous insecti
cides, in conjunction with a conductometry. Paraoxon or fenitrothion w
as hydrolyzed by PTE causing conductance change, which was subsequentl
y determined by a conductance electrode. Under optimum condition, para
oxon and fenitrothion were determined within the range of 1.0 similar
to 7.0 mu M and 20-100 mu M, respectively.
