N. Kahlaclemenceau et al., PREVALENCE INVESTIGATION OF COAMOXYCLAVUL ANATE PRESCRIPTION IN A GENERAL-HOSPITAL, Medecine et maladies infectieuses, 26, 1996, pp. 605-609
The struggle commettee against Nosocomial infection (CLIN) notes on th
e 9th of march 1995, the coamoxyclavulante (Augmentin(R)) (AMC) prescr
iptions in all the services of Mantes's Hospital. With this investigat
ion, references values will be obtained to analyse the important paren
teral consommation increase of AMC. The rate prevalence founded is 7.3
%. 7/43 prescriptions were prophylactic and 5 of them have a surgery
indication. The consensus conference recommandations of december 92 in
Paris are irregulary followed about administration way, duration and
frequency of AMC. Among tile 36 curative prescriptions, 16 were admini
strated by intra-venous way: 19 % of patients had bacteriologic sample
s refering to the infectious site treated with AMC. The prescription d
oes not care always at the antibiogram. This investigation shows that
AMC is used especialy as curative empiric treatment against old patien
ts respiratory infections. The therapy duration is indicated only once
on two times, AMC administration ways, indications and duration and a
lso bacteriologic results utilisation must be specify with the prescri
ptors compared with a next investigation according to protocols which
must be assessed by the same investigation next year.
