In 1991, we have created in Rennes a ''Resarch and Study commitee for
Osteo-articular Infections'' (GERIO), Among the collected data, the fr
equency of meticillin-resistant S, aureus (MRSA) infections was arisin
g. We retrospectively conducted a study on 27 cases of osteo-articular
MRSA infections. All patients were originally in orthopedic surgery u
nits, most often after traumatic lesions. Allmost all strains were mul
tiresistant, and five infections belonged to the same epidemic. Sevent
y seven percent oi the patients were cured despite the severity and ch
ronicity of the disease, suggesting that multidisciplinary considerati
on of these infections is accurate. The most frequent modifications pr
oposed by the group were the type of antibiotics used, the route of ad
ministration and the duration of treatment.
