Lf. Almeidatoledo et al., KARYOTYPE AND NOR CONSERVATISM WITH HETEROCHROMATIN REORGANIZATION INNEOTROPICAL BRYCONIDS, Caryologia, 49(1), 1996, pp. 35-43
Cytogenetic studies on Bryconid fishes have shown the occurrence of ka
ryotype and NOR conservatism and heterochromatin reorganization. The p
resent data on three species representative of the migratory genus Bry
con corroborate the hypothesis according to which conservative pattern
s of karyotypic evolution can be related to high levels of vagility an
d large populational size in Neotropical freshwater fishes.
