Abstract
The gene encoding Chromatium vinosum 2[4Fe-4S] ferredoxin has been clo ned and expressed in Escherichia coti. It is flanked by a gene startin g with the rare codon UUG and homologous to E. coli kdtB. Chromatium v inosum ferredoxin may represent a new sub-class of iron-sulfur protein s widely distributed among diverse, including non-photosynthetic, bact eria.
