Abstract
Reaction of barium metal with 2-pyridylphenylmethane in liquid ammonia , thf and diglyme at -50 degrees C then ca, 70 degrees C yields the me tallated bent 'open metallocene' with the metal centre bound in an eta (5) manner to the ipso-C, adjacent C-centres and nearest N, C centres, a tridentate diglyme and a thf molecule [Ba-C, N 2.983(6)-3.303(6) An gstrom, Ba-O 2.766(4)-2.855(4) Angstrom determined at -100 degrees C].
