The data on phase equilibria in the M-X-X' and M-Al-X ternary systems
(M-transition metal of III to VIII groups, X-B, C, N, Si) have been co
nsidered and summarized. Modern oxygen-free advanced ceramics is based
on these ternary systems. Phase diagrams of the 130 ternary systems h
ave been discussed, more than two hundred ternary phases forming in th
ese systems have been systematized and described. The typical crystal
structures of ternary compounds and phases have been considered, the c
ommon and distinctive features of these structures have been analysed.
It has been shown that the ternary compounds with octahedral atomic g
roups XM(6) have a regions of homogeneity.
