Jc. Ho et Ne. Wijeysundera, STUDY OF A COMPACT SPIRAL-COIL COOLING AND DEHUMIDIFYING HEAT-EXCHANGER, Applied thermal engineering, 16(10), 1996, pp. 777-790
A spiral-coil heat exchanger consisting of a number of horizontal laye
rs of spirally wound, finned tubes connected to vertical manifolds at
the inner and outermost turns of each coil has been studied. A theoret
ical model predicting the thermal performance of the spiral-coil heat
exchanger as a cooling and dehumidifying unit has been developed. Expe
riments on a laboratory model of the spiral-coil unit were conducted a
nd the results obtained confirmed the theoretical predictions. Perform
ance charts of enthalpy effectiveness and humidity ratio effectiveness
vs Ntu suitable for air-handler unit design have also been presented.
