This redetermination of the structure of L-cysteine, C3H7NO2S, forms p art IV in a series of crystal structures of hydrophobic amino acids. T he thiol groups of the two molecules in the asymmetric unit are involv ed in S-H ... O and S-H ... S interactions. The associated C-S bond le ngths are significantly different. The absolute structure could be det ermined from the X-ray data.
