This study was designed to test the assumption that a hierarchy of eva
luation will exist when multiple-group membership information is provi
ded. It was hypothesized that, based on in-group bias, there would be
an additive effect of group membership (racial and geographic) informa
tion. Results indicated that White northern and southern samples of U.
S. student tended to rate a geographically similar yet racially differ
ent actor most favorably, Attributionally, the Black actor was consist
ently rated as less responsible for his actions than the White actor.
