Abstract
The results of the post mortem examinations of pigs at the Animal Heal th Institute of the Agriculture Chamber of Hannover from 1965 to the e nd of August 1995 were analysed The absolute number and the percentage of animals with gastric ulcers increased from 1.1% to 7.7%. The reaso n for this increase may be due to stress and possibly genetic factors. The analysis of the results post moi-tern examinations of calves up t o four months of age in Schleswig-Holstein indicated that the proporti on of calves with abomasal ulcers increased from 0.52 to 2.2% from 197 8 to 1992. An analysis of the mortality from noninfectious diseases in dicated that the proportion of deaths due to abomasal ulcers increased from 10.3 to 41.4%.
