Abstract
Hydroquinones are oxidized rapidly and quantitatively with acyl nitrat es or trimethylsilyl nitrates to quinones. Primary and secondary alcoh ols are oxidized to aldehydes and ketones in good yields with acyl nit rates suported on montmorillonite or chrysotile. A mechaninsm is propo sed based on a nitrate intermediate isolated from the reaction mixture . Copyright (C) 1996 Elsevier Science Ltd
