The kinetics of interaction of hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) with lignosulf
onic acid (LSA) and nitrolignin (NL) have been studied as well as with
LSA methylated with diazomethane or methyl-sulfate. Changes in the fu
nctional composition of LSA and in its infrared spectra as a result of
oxidation by hydrogen peroxide were investigated. It was established
that hydrogen peroxide consumption proceeds by two radical chain route
s and by a non-radical mechanism under interaction with water-soluble
mathematical model of kinetics of H2O2 interaction with lignin derivat
ives was obtained by an analysis of the kinetic scheme. The model is c
onsistent with kinetic results for the oxidation of LSA and nitroligni
n by peroxide. Copyright (C) 1996 Published by Elsevier Science Ltd.
