Abstract
RODEO (rotating delivery of excitation off resonance), which can be re presented as an Delta del pulse where Delta is an 2 pi-sinusoidal wave form and del = -Delta, has been used as a frequency-selective rf pulse for fat-suppressed three-dimensional magnetic resonance imaging. This study systematically compared several sinusoidal-shaped pulses with d ifferent combinations of Delta and del. The sinusoidal-shaped pulses w ere also compared with the Gaussian-shaped and binomial-shaped pulses. The overall performances for fat suppression can be rated as ''Delta del Delta > 1 (3) over bar 3 (1) over bar > Delta del = 1 (2) over bar 1,'' where 1 (2) over bar 1 and 1 (3) over bar 3 (1) over bar are sec ond- and third-order binomial pulses, respectively.
