Abstract
UPS studies of monolayers of octadecanethiol and 1-cyclohexyl-12-dodec anethiol chains self-assembled on gold evidence the fact that molecula r structure fingerprints can be detected in the outer valence region. The results provide incentive for a more systematic use of UPS toward this goal in conjunction with other surface sensitive techniques and q uantum chemistry calculations.
