A novel method for the kinetic study of a chemical reaction, HeI photo
electron spectroscopy (PES), is introduced. The prerequisites for the
determination of the kinetic parameters of a chemical reaction using t
he PES method are: (1) there is a nonoverlapping band in the PE spectr
a of the reactant and the product; (2) the reaction course can be cont
rolled by changing the temperature of the reaction system. For the iso
merisation reaction CH3NC --> CH3CN, the parameters obtained by the PE
S method are in agreement with previous results, indicating that PES i
s a reliable method to determine kinetic parameters of a chemical reac
tion. The relative photoionization cross-sections of the bands used fo
r the sample studied are obtained from the value of the intercept in t
he kinetic equations.
