Abstract
Secular (de) field generation by a single. obliquely incident p-polari zed intense laser beam of ultrashort pulse duration is studied for ste ep density profiles. It is demonstrated that a secular uphill accelera tion mechanism exists which could be observed experimentally as a nega tive secular electrostatic field in the skin layer.
