M. Taky et al., CHRONOPOTENTIOMETRIC RESPONSE OF A CATION-EXCHANGE MEMBRANE IN CONTACT WITH CHROMIUM((III)) SOLUTIONS, Desalination, 105(3), 1996, pp. 219-228
The paper deals with the transfer of ionic species containing Cr-III t
hrough a CMV cation-exchange membrane. Two electrochemical techniques
are used: the chronopotentiometric response and the transport number m
easurements. According to the composition of the anodic solution conta
ining CrCl3, hydroxyl ion-chromium(III) complex forms enter into the m
embrane and water splitting occurs. This phenomenon is attributed to a
poisoning of the membrane by these multivalent complex forms which ch
ange locally the selectivity of the cation-exchange membrane.
