Abstract
Involvement of the thumb is common in patients with rheumatoid arthrit is. Six classic types of deformity have been described, but other patt erns of deformity can also be encountered. Surgical treatment must be individualized for each patient and includes synovectomy, tenodesis, t endon transfer, arthrodesis, and arthroplasty.
