Polychelates were obtained by addition of an aqueous solution of the b
ranched poly(ethyleneimine) (BPEI) to the aqueous solutions of Cu(II),
Co(II), and Ni(II). All the polychelates were characterized by elemen
tal analysis, FT-IR, H-1 NMR spectroscopy, thermogravimetry, and scann
ing electron microscopy. Conductivity and magnetic moment measurements
were also carried out. The three polychelates showed a change of the
chemical shift in H-1 NMR spectra due to the metal ion complexing with
the polyligand. Accordingly to the spectral study, the polychelates s
howed different geometric arrangements: Cu-BPEI square planar, Ni-BPEI
tetrahedral, and Co-BPEI octahedral.
