Pe. Mccarthy et al., LIPOSARCOMA ASSOCIATED WITH A GLASS FOREIGN-BODY IN A DOG, Journal of the American Veterinary Medical Association, 209(3), 1996, pp. 612
Liposarcoma is an uncommon neoplasm in dogs and is believed to arise d
e novo and not from malignant transformation of existing lipomas. A ca
usative agent has not been identified. Various types of sarcomas have
been associated with foreign bodies, including liposarcomas. Developme
nt of foreign body-induced sarcomas depends on the size, surface textu
re, and physical and chemical properties of the foreign material. Trea
tment for soft-tissue sarcomas includes early excision with wide surgi
cal borders. Although soft-tissue sarcomas usually are considered resi
stant to radiation and hyperthermia, these modalities can serve as adj
unct treatments to surgical excision.
