Abstract
Kinetic regularities of catalytic reactions of N-methyldiphenylamine-4 -sulfonic acid oxidation by potassium periodate in weakly acid solutio ns (similar to 10(-3) M in sulfuric acid) in the presence of ruthenium (IV) are studied. The overall kinetic equation of the reaction is deri ved, and the rate constants of the process are calculated. The observe d regularities make it possible to explain the effects of different fa ctors on the overall reaction rate, to determine and examine the slowe st steps, and to draw a conclusion on the possible mechanism of the al ternating oxidation-reduction of the catalyst.
