The luminescence quenching reaction of fluoranthene by molecular oxyge
n on MCM-41, a silicagel of uniform pore size, was studied al room tem
perature by time-resolved and steady-state fluorescence spectroscopy-T
he quenching reaction is well described by the Langmuir-Hinshelwood-(L
H)-model. By applying this model to the experimental results rate cons
tants of the quenching reaction, equilibrium constants of oxygen adsor
ption, rate constants of oxygen desorption and heats of oxygen adsorpt
ion were derived.
