A series of 17 patients with myeloid disorders and partial deletions o
f tile long arm of chromosome 5 were-investigated using fluorescence i
n situ hybridization with 5q34-q35 region-specific painting probes gen
erated by chromosome microdissection. This approach confirmed that par
tial 5q deletions are interstitial in all the cases studied. In additi
on no translocation involving chromosome 5 was detected.
