The mechanochemical effect (the influence of plastic deformation on an
odic polarization) was measured in static loading mode for type 316L s
tainless steel. It was shown that both passive and transpassive curren
t densities reach a maximum in the course of growing plastic strain, c
onfirming the prime role of strain hardening independently of surface
film existence. Copyright (C) 1996 Elsevier Science Ltd.
