J. Mateu et al., MAJOR INORGANIC SPECIES IN RAIN WATER COLLECTED IN MAJORCA (SPAIN) - A PRELIMINARY-STUDY, Journal of environmental science and health. Part A: Environmental science and engineering, 31(7), 1996, pp. 1669-1682
Major inorganic species (chloride, nitrate, sulphate, calcium, magnesi
um, sodium and potassium) were determined in rain water samples collec
ted on Majorca island (north-western Mediterranean region) between Nov
ember 1992 and November 1994. The results reveal marked temporal chang
es in the contents of all the species studied and an inverse proportio
nality relationship between concentration and rainfall. The total annu
al deposition of most of the analytes occurs largely in a few samples.
Wet deposition was found to prevail over dry deposition (the latter w
as roughly one-fourth the former).
