Abstract
This review covers the application of the Onsager fluctuation theory a nd reciprocal principle to nonequilibrium membrane phase transitions ( PT) with diffusion. The main features of membrane ''vitrification'' th eory are discussed for spherical lipid membranes subjected to the fast cooling. The relevance to cryoprotection problems is discussed.
