During the course of experiments aiming to produce high-Mg carbonates
through bacterial carbonatogenesis in aerobiosis, various types of str
uvite corpuscles have been produced, notably ooids. Such biogenic stru
ctures have already often been observed for carbonate and Ca-phosphate
particles but had never been noticed for Mg-phosphate bodies. These o
oids have formed in liquid medium the strict composition of which was
elaborated in order to favor the production of high-Mg carbonates. The
hydrated magnesium phosphate has been the only mineral obtained eithe
r as ooids or as classical crystals.
