Abstract
Masses and decays of the baryons are considered. The entire spectrosco py of baryons containing u,d,s,c and b quacks is calculated using the five quark masses and only four additional parameters describing the p otential between the baryons. This potential is taken to be a short-ra nge Coulomb potential together with a long-range linear potential modi fied by a harmonic-oscillator potential. Decays are studied using the quark pair creation model of Le Yaouane et. al. The pair strength gamm a is replaced by (k) gamma. This and the meson radius are the only par ameters used in the calculation of the decays. Overall, we have a usef ul model, employing a small number of parameters, yet capable of yield ing a description of the baryons in good accord with experimental data .
