Abstract
The two-dimensional shape of far-field patterns was studied and optimi sed in a 1.3 mu m spot-size converted laser with a pn-buried heterostr ucture. After optimising the laser structure and using 2 inch wafer pr ocessing, the authors improved the shape of the far-field pattern, and the coupling efficiency by using an optical fibre. An average couplin g efficiency of -1.4dB and good uniformity in the laser characteristic s were obtained.
