Em. Sjoberg et H. Garoff, THE TRANSLATION-ENHANCING REGION OF THE SEMLIKI-FOREST-VIRUS SUBGENOME IS ONLY FUNCTIONAL IN THE VIRUS-INFECTED CELL (VOL 77, PG 1323, 1996), Journal of General Virology, 77, 1996, pp. 1985-1985
We have recently shown that the Semliki Forest virus (SFV) subgenome c
ontains a translation enhancer region in the coding part of its RNA. T
he enhancer increases the translation of the viral structural genes ap
proximately ten-fold and thereby plays a key role in virus assembly. I
n this study we conclusively show that this translation enhancer repre
sents an adaptation to the environment in the virus-infected cell.
