The results of investigations into the hydrogen sorption peculiarities
of mechanically activated TiFe and TiFe-MmNi(5)(LaNi5) samples at roo
m temperature and without preliminary thermal activation are presented
. It has been found that pressed TiFe (> 0.4 mm fraction) samples abso
rb hydrogen for the first time at room temperature. The samples made o
f fine TiFe powder (< 0.4 mm fraction) exhibited impaired hydrogenatio
n in spite of the fresh surface availability in the initial TiFe sampl
es. In the TiFe (<0.4 mm fraction) complete hydrogenation at room temp
erature and without preliminary thermal activation is shown to proceed
only in the present TiFe-MmNi(5)(LaNi5) mixtures. Copyright (C) 1996
