The sets of vertical ionization potentials for molecules of hydrogen (
deuterium) desorbed from metal hydrides as well as for thermodynamical
ly equilibrated molecular hydrogen (deuterium) at room temperature wer
e obtained by means of the ionization efficiency curves method using m
ass-spectrometry measurements. Some sets of term differences are expla
ined by thermoemission vibrational excitation of molecules. Comparativ
e analysis to the data previously obtained is given. It was establishe
d that the anomalies of electrical transfer observed in the gas phase
of metal-hydride-hydrogen systems are caused by vibrational excitation
of H-2-molecules, generated during recombination of H-atoms on the me
tal hydride sorbent surface. Copyright (C) 1996 International Associat
