H. Chardin et al., SUPERFICIAL, DENSIFICATION OF P M PARTS USING ULTRASONIC SHOT-PEENING/, International journal of powder metallurgy, 32(3), 1996, pp. 245
Ultrasonic shot-peening was developed to densify P/M porous parts. Exp
eriments were performed on a sintered Distaloy AE steel with an initia
l porosity ranging from 9 to 21v/o. Quantitative image analysis was de
veloped to characterize the evolution of porosity after densification.
The influence of process parameters and initial porosity on the poros
ity profiles was shown. The results are compared with the evolution of
the surface roughness and microhardness profiles. Finally, the main p
arameters were isolated.
