Data are presented on Fusarium head blight (FHB) or head scab resistan
ce of 96 winter wheat, 2 winter triticale and 38 spring wheat genotype
s. The genotypes have been evaluated after artificial inoculation in o
ne or more seasons from 1992 to 1995. The disease development was esti
mated by visual scorings. A standardized area under the disease progre
ss curve (SAUDPC) was calculated to estimate disease severity. The sin
gle trials were analyzed according to their experimental designs. The
mean values of the single trials were then subjected to an analysis ac
ross years and least square means were calculated for all genotypes. C
onsiderable variation for scab resistance was found. A number of wheat
genotypes showed consistently low levels of scab attack, for instance
Sumei #3, CM 82036, Wuhan-lines and Frontana (spring types) as well a
s Sgv-NBMM-Sum3.11, BVAL-lines and Praag 8 (winter types). Some of th
e resistant genotypes are used in practical breeding and for genetic s
tudies as well as for the identification of molecular markers for scab
resistance.
