The intercalation of dodecylamine and sulfamic acid into layered doubl
e hydroxide (LDH) has been carried out and characterized using powder
X-ray diffraction (PXRD), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTI
R), thermogravimetry (TG) and differential thermal analysis (DTA). The
study confirms that intercalation takes place and results in gallery
heights of 13.3 Angstrom and 11.4 Angstrom for dodecylamine and sulfam
ic acid respectively. The LDH-dodecylamine intercalation compound exhi
bits remarkable complexing behaviour for transition metal ions.
