The paper presents the results of the kinetic studies on wheat straw p
ulping by the alkali ethanol process, under normal conditions, investi
gating the effects of the reaction temperature and alkali concentratio
n on the delignification rate. The reaction rate increases directly wi
th temperature, and it doubles if the alkali concentration is doubled.
The Arrhenius equation is applicable in describing the delignificatio
n. The activation energy in the bulk phase is of 16 kJ/mol. The pulpin
g process exhibits fast and selective delignification under mild condi
tions even at longer cooking times. Wheat straw possesses a high delig
nification ability.
