Abstract
The two related monoterpenes l-carvone (m.p. - 29 degrees C) and I-lim onene (m.p. - 74 degrees C) when cooled to -120 degrees C in DSC exper iments remain in the liquid state. On subsequent heating to room tempe rature carvone crystallizes spontaneously at -75 degrees C whereafter it melts at -29 degrees C. Limonene, on the other hand, does not cryst allize at all; to understand its behaviour, mixtures with carvone were investigated.
