Abstract
The first descriptions of the fossil plants included in the so-called 'Juan de Morales Flora', from the classic locality Quebrada Juan de Mo rales, ca. 75 km east of Iquique, Tarapaca Region, Chile, are given. T he flora is composed of Neocalamites sp., Dictyophyllum sp,, Gleicheni tes sp., Zamites antarcticus Halle, Zamites cf. pusillus Halle, Zamite s sp., Anomozamites sp., Brachyphyllum sp. and an incertae sedis seed. Stratigraphically, the flora is located in the upper section of the C hacarilla Formation, composed mainly of red sandstones and siltites of continental origin, The generally accepted Jurassic age of the flora is confirmed, and herein restricted to the Middle Jurassic.
