Vt. Rao et Vr. Rengaraju, PROBABILISTIC MODEL FOR CONFLICTS AT URBAN UNCONTROLLED INTERSECTION, Journal of transportation engineering, 123(1), 1997, pp. 81-84
A study of interactions among crossing vehicles at an intersection for
ms an important attribute for evaluating the safety at urban uncontrol
led intersections. In the present study, an attempt is made to develop
a methodology based on probabilistic approach for determining the pos
sible traffic conflicts at urban uncontrolled intersections. The devel
oped model is validated using field data. The model can be used for qu
ick estimation of possible conflicts at urban uncontrolled intersectio
n. Issues related to the applicability of the model to identify the im
pact of parameters such as cross-road traffic flow and percentage of t
urning traffic on number of conflicts are briefly analyzed.
