Abstract
The status of world topographic mapping and the acquisition of satelli te image data for land resource mapping applications are reviewed. Spe cial focus has been placed on results from the German MOMS-02 system, which offers high-resolution, stereoscopic image data for the producti on of medium-scale maps. It is concluded that topographic mapping from space is on the verge of becoming an operational reality.
