Abstract
High strength steels are inherently attractive for engineering applica tions owing to their high rigidity and therefore helps in design of li ghter, cost effective structures leading to material and energy saving s, The R&D Centre of Steel Authority of India Ltd. (SAIL) embarked upo n a major research programme on developing market oriented high streng th category steels, in collaboration with the different steel units of SAIL. Concerted efforts during the last two decades have resulted in marketing of a wide variety-of high strength steel products. This pape r outlines the process technology evolved, the product attributes achi eved and various end-applications for each of these products.
