Abstract
Infectious risks for healthcare workers include bloodborne pathogens, Mycobacterium tuberculosis, respiratory viruses, and exotic laboratory -associated pathogens, Prevention strategies include the development a nd use of behavioral, engineering and work practice controls, adherenc e to isolation guidelines and immunization. Effective infection contro l education and occupational health programmes for immunization, post- exposure prophylaxis and treatment are also essential.
