The bismuth(III) chloride ether complexes BiCl3 . diglyme (1), BiCl3 .
diethylcarbitol (2) and BiCl3 . 3THF (3) (diglyme = bis(2-methoxy)eth
yl ether; diethylcarbitol = bis(2-ethoxy)ethyl ether) have been prepar
ed. Compounds 1 and 2 form dimers in the solid state and exhibit disto
rted pentagonal bipyramidal coordination around the bismuth centers, w
hile complex 3 is monomeric in the crystal lattice and shows approxima
te octahedral coordination for bismuth.
