We have studied the electronic structures of Ce/Ni(110) and Ce/Cu(110)
systems by the 4d-->4f resonant photoemission using synchrotron radia
tion and the Ce 3d core-level x-ray photoemission. We also investigate
d the distribution of component atoms in surface layers of Ce/Ni(110)
system by the medium-energy ion scattering. In Ce/Ni(110) system, stre
ngth of the hybridization between 4f and conduction electrons (f-c hyb
ridization) significantly depends on the Ce concentration in the surfa
ce layers. In Ce/Cu(110) system, the f-c hybridization is very weak an
d insensitive to the Ce concentration in the surface layers.
